JMS EXTENDED SCHOOL DAY 2019-2020

JMS Parents, Students and Community Members of Jamestown,

As you may know, the legislative session for North Dakota wrapped up this past spring. One of the bills that passed this spring was House Bill 1346, which has been called the Days to Hours  bill. This bill provides changes in the school calendar law that is consistent with many other states across the country. HB 1346 gives options to provide the best possible educational opportunities for its students and teachers through flexibility in school days. One change required, however, is the increase in hours necessary for middle schools. To maximize this flexibility Jamestown Middle School has to extend our school day. Starting in 2019-2020, Jamestown  Middle School's day will begin at 8:20 a.m. and end at 3:20 p.m.

As stated above, with this change comes a great opportunity. We are excited to have your child with us for an extra 20 minutes a day. This has allowed us to create a schedule that provides more opportunities for our students and teachers to collaborate with each other and be successful. Students will be able to receive extra support in areas of need, and they will be able to have additional time to grow and enrich their educational experience at Jamestown Middle School.

We, at Jamestown Middle School, are looking forward to another fantastic year helping your child grow academically and socially during an important time of his or her life. We value the uniqueness of each student, and we strive to meet the needs of each student to ensure success at Jamestown Middle School and into the future. If you have any additional questions, feel free to contact me.

Sincerely,
Ryan Harty
